GREENSBURG, PA - The D'Youville University men's soccer team defeated Seton Hill University, who are receiving votes in the national poll, on the road on Wednesday by a score of 2-1. This is the Saints' third straight game of recording a positive result.
Senior
Sean Burke (Coventry, England) and sophomore
Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) knocked in DYU's two goals and freshman goalkeeper
Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded four saves on five shots faced.
The Saints' first scoring chance came in the 13th minute, when sophomore
Finn Savage (Wrexham, Wales) ripped a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Griffins' goalkeeper.
In the 17th minute, junior
Asier Fernandez (Betera, Spain) put a shot on goal that was saved, but Burke was right there to knock in the rebound and put DYU ahead 1-0. This is Burke's first goal as a Saint.
DYU continued to pepper Seton Hill's goalkeeper, as freshman
Shawn Richardson (Thailand, Sweden) launched a shot on goal in the 18th minute, but it was steered away.
In the 37th minute, Robinson got past the Griffins defense and was able to find the back of the net for his first goal of the season and extend the Saints' lead to 2-0.
Four minutes later, Seton Hill responded with a goal to cut the DYU lead to 2-1 as the game went to halftime.
The Saints saw a pair of chances to increase their lead back to two in the 50th minute, as Savage and Richardson both got shots off, but neither could convert.
The Griffins threatened to tie in the 51st minute, as they put a shot on goal, but Solorio smothered it to retain the lead.
Seton Hill's final chance came in the 77th minute, but Solorio and the Saints were able to snuff it out and go on to claim the 2-1 victory.
D'Youville will be back on their home turf on Saturday at 1:00 when they welcome conference foe Queens College to Dobson Field.
