Women's Tennis Drops Nailbiter to West Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score BUFFALO - The D'Youville University women's tennis team was narrowly defeated by West Virginia Wesleyan College on Sunday by a score of 4-3.

At first doubles, the Saints' freshmen duo of Kseniya Zhdanok (Minsk, Belarus) and Mina Randjelovic (Paracin, Serbia) were able to gut out a 7-5 win. At second doubles, Yuliia Kashtelian (Lviv, Ukraine) and Maria Campisi (Caracas, Venezuela) put together a clinical 6-2 win to claim the doubles point for D'Youville.

Randjelovic and Kashtelian continued their stellar performances as the match moved to singles. At second singles, Randjelovic pulled out the first set in a tiebreaker and then cruised to a 6-2 victory in the second set. At third singles, Kashtelian was dialed in as she won convincingly by a score of 6-1, 6-3. At fifth singles, Paola Ermina (San Sebastian, Spain) battled hard, but was defeated 6-2, 6-3. The match came down to first singles, where Zhdanok dropped the first set 6-4, but bounced back to take the second set 6-4 and force a deciding third set. The third set was tight, but West Virginia Wesleyan was able to pull it out 7-5 and clinch the match victory 4-3.

The Saints will be back in action next Saturday, when they face Shippensburg University on the road at 11:00 a.m.
