DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – In the third game of the series against Mercy University, the D'Youville University baseball team extends their winning streak to 11 games with a 7-4 Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (29-17, 18-5 ECC) had four players get a team-high two hits on the day with
Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.),
Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario),
Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.), and
Dillon Crook (Liverpool, N.Y.) leading the way. Hollins,
Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ontario), and
Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) each had a double on the day. Hammond drove in a pair of runs while Boucher came in to score twice.
D'Youville got the scoring started in the top of the second with
Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) came into score on an error. Hammond hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Boucher to make it 2-0. The Saints added their third run in the third inning as
Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Dzimian to make it 3-0. The Mavs answered in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2.
DYU was able to push their lead back to three runs with Hammond hitting a sac fly to right field to bring home Boucher in the fourth and Hollins grounding out to first to bring in Crook in the fifth to make it 5-2.
Mercy was able to cut the deficit in the seventh, scoring a pair of runs to make it 5-4. The Saints added two insurance runs in the ninth as Crook singled to left center that brought home Hammond and another sac fly by Morris to bring in
Craig Oliver (Fredericton, New Brunswick).
Mihir Manerikar (Mississauga, Ontario) got the win on the mound, going five innings where he surrendered two hits, four runs, and striking out two batters.
Rob Stephens (Seaford, N.Y.) came in for relief in the sixth, pitching a clean inning.
Kyle Blunt (Watford, Ontario) and
Austin Delgado each saw on-third of action before
Zach Penner (Leamington, Ontario) came in for two and one-third inning to get the save. Penner surrendered one hit while striking out three batters.
The Saints will be back in action tomorrow, May 5th, to close out the regular season against Mercy University with the first pitch at 9:30 a.m.
