NIAGARA FALLS, NY – The D'Youville University baseball team extended their winning streak to seven games with a 14-2 win over Lincoln University on Saturday.
Â
For the third time this series, the Saints got runs on the board in their first turn at bat. With two outs and runners on second and third,
Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario) continued his hot streak with a two-run single. Boucher has now driven in a run in seven straight games.
Â
In the bottom of the second, two more runs came around to score for the Saints after an errant throw from the Lions' third baseman allowed
Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.) and
Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ontario) to cross home. Later in the inning,
Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) ripped a triple into the right center field gap to drive in another run and make it 5-0. That triple extended Dzimian's hit streak to 12 games.
Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) then followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0 DYU.
Â
After Lincoln was able to bring across a run off Saints' starter
Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) in the top of the fifth, DYU got the run right back in the bottom of the fifth when Nowak drove in Boucher with a base hit to right field, making it 7-1.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, a pair of errors from Lincoln allowed two runs to cross for the Saints, extending their lead to 9-1. Dzimian then drove in another with a base hit to left field to make it 10-1. Morris drove in the fifth run of the inning and twelfth of the game with a single through the right side.
Â
DYU tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on RBI singles from
Craig Oliver (Fredericton, New Brunswick) and Dzimian, who finished the day with four hits and three RBI.
Â
Morris was dominant on the mound for the Saints, going a career-high eight innings while only allowing one run on three hits and punching out four.
Â
D'Youville will go for their eighth consecutive win on Sunday as they close out their series with Lincoln at 12:00 p.m. The Saints will also honor their seniors in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
