Saints Rout Dolphins Twice in Doubleheader Sweep

NIAGARA FALLS, NY – The D'Youville University baseball team put together two offensive outbursts against the College of Staten Island on Saturday, beating the Dolphins 14-4 and 13-2 in their doubleheader.

D'Youville 14, Staten Island 4

After Staten Island took a 1-0 lead off Saints' starter Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) in the top of the first, the Saints responded in the bottom of the first when Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) rounded the bases for a two-run inside-the-park home run to take a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, DYU tacked on two more thanks to a sacrifice fly from Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario) and an RBI single from Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) to make it 4-1.

The Saints put the hammer down in the fifth, plating eight runs in the inning. Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.) brought in a run with a single and Dillon Crook (Liverpool, N.Y.) brought in two more with a single of his own. Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) then laid down a bunt to the pitcher, who threw it away and allowed Dzimian to come all the way around to score along with two more runners to make it 10-1. Boucher capped off the big inning with a two-run double to make it 12-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Boucher came through again, ripping a triple down the right field line that brought in a run to make it 13-2. He then scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to extend the lead to 14-2.

Auclair got the win after giving up just one run and striking out three in five innings and Connor Joedicke (Bloomville, N.Y.) got his first save of the season after throwing four innings of relief.

D'Youville 13, Staten Island 2

The Saints got out to an early lead in game two of the doubleheader after four straight walks brought in the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the third, DYU once again put together a huge inning that distanced them from the Dolphins. Six consecutive hits from Nowak, Craig Oliver (Fredericton, New Brunswick), Crook, Dzimian, Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) brought across eight runs. Later in the inning, Glinski singled, Nowak reached on an error, and Oliver walked to bring in three more runs and cap off an 11-run inning for the Saints, giving them a 12-0 lead.

Mihir Manerikar (Mississauga, Ontario) got the winning decision for DYU after throwing five shutout innings while striking out three and allowing just two hits.

DYU will go for the sweep on Sunday, as they finish their series with Staten Island at 11:00 a.m. at Sal Maglie Stadium.
