Glinski Homers Twice As Saints Win Two High-Scoring Affairs Against STAC

SPARKILL, NY – The D'Youville University baseball team swept the doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday, winning two high-scoring affairs.

D'Youville 12, St. Thomas Aquinas 8

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) tripled and scored on an error to bring in their first run of the day. Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario) followed with a triple of his own and came in to score on a Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.) single.

In the top of the third, after Blaise Kolbert (Lancaster, N.Y.) drew a leadoff walk, Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) drove him in with a double in the right centerfield gap to make it 3-1. Dzimian then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. Boucher then continued his offensive hot streak with an RBI single to extend DYU's lead to 5-1. The Spartans responded with three runs off Saints' starter Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 5-4.

Glinski led off the top of the eighth with a double and Boucher picked up his third hit of the game, driving in Glinski to make it 6-4 DYU. Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) ripped a double down the left field line to extend the lead to 7-4. Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ontario) followed with an RBI single to make it 8-4. Dzimian brought home the fourth run of the inning with a single to make it 9-4 Saints.

After the Spartans scored four in the bottom of the eighth to come within one run, DYU tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Nowak brought in a run with a single, Boucher came around to score on an error by STAC's catcher, and Hammond brought in a run with his third hit of the day.

Sam Worthen (Guelph, Ontario) shut the door on the Spartans in the top of the ninth to notch his ECC-leading ninth save of the season.

D'Youville 11, St. Thomas Aquinas 7

The Spartans got on the board first in game two with two runs off Saints' starter Mihir Manerikar (Mississauga, Ontario) in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second, Boucher led off the inning with a single to extend his hitting streak to eight games. After Nowak followed with a single of his own, Simpson clubbed his tenth home run of the season to put DYU ahead 3-2. Three runs in the second and one run in the third put STAC back in front 6-3.

In the top of the seventh, a single from Dillon Crook (Liverpool, N.Y.) and a walk from Dzimian set up an RBI single from Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) to cut it to a 7-4 deficit. Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) followed with an RBI double to make it 7-5. Glinski then launched a three-run homer to put the Saints in front 8-7.

Glinski wasn't done, though. In the top of the eighth, after Hollins walked and Morris singled, Glinski blasted his second consecutive three-run homer to make it 11-7, giving him six RBIs for the game and putting the game out of reach.

Zach Penner (Leamington, Ontario) got the winning decision for DYU, tossing two innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four batters.
