Baseball Defeated by Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The D'Youville University baseball team was defeated by Jefferson University on Friday by a score of 10-5.

The Saints got on the board in the top of the first after a walk by Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) and a single from Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) led to an RBI single from Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.).

Jefferson responded with two runs off DYU starter Mihir Manerikar (Mississauga, Ontario) in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-1.

The Saints had an opportunity to strike back in the top of the second after Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.) drew a walk and Craig Oliver (Fredericton, New Brunswick) singled, but they were unable to score.

After Jefferson extended their lead to 5-1 in the third, DYU got one back in the top of the fourth when Nowak scored on an error by the Rams' second baseman to make it 5-2.

In the top of the fifth, after Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch and Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ontario) doubled, Nowak launched a three-run home run, his first of the season, to cut Jefferson's lead to 6-5.

The Rams responded with two runs off Zach Penner (Leamington, Ontario) in the bottom half of the fifth and two runs off Connor Bowman (Orchard Park, N.Y.) in the sixth to go ahead 10-5.

In the top of the seventh, Glinski singled and Nowak walked to put two runners on and try to cut into Jefferson's lead, but the Saints were unable to bring them in.

In the eighth, DYU had runners on second and third after base hits from Oliver and Dzimian, but once again the Saints were unable to cash in.

DYU loaded the bases in the top of the ninth after a double from Hammond and walks from Nowak and Oliver, but Jefferson was able to get out of the jam and clinch the 10-5 victory.

D'Youville will be back in action on Saturday, when they face West Chester University of Pennsylvania at 1:00 p.m.
