SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Closing out their road trip, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team came away with the 11-6 win over Notre Dame College Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints (3-5) were led offensively by
Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y.) with five goals while
Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y.) added four points (3 goals, 1 assist).
Sam Newlin (Austin, Texas) finished with two points (1 goal, 1 assist) while two other Saints added a goal each. Newlin and
Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y.) got the offense going, winning five draw controls each.
Sophia Conzone (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the defense, grabbing three groundballs and causing four turnovers. Two other Saints grabbed three groundballs each.
Grace Grosso (Hull, Mass.) got the scoring going in the first minute of action to give DYU the early 1-0 lead. Handley kept the scoring going, scoring the next two goals of the game to give the Saints the 3-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the first quarter. The Falcons were able to get one goal back before the end of the frame.
Notre Dame scored the first goal of the second quarter but goals by Gordon and Handley gave DYU the 5-2 lead going into halftime.
Handley kept the red-hot Saints firing in the third quarter, scoring her fourth goal of the game. Notre Dame scored the next two goals to make it 6-4 but back-to-back goals by Gordon gave the 8-4 advantage going to the fourth quarter.
Handley scored the first goal of the fourth with
Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y.) scoring with 10:06 left in regulation to make it 10-4. After a goal by the Falcons, Newlin put the final nail in the coffin, scoring with just under three minute remaining in the game.
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y.) went the distance in net, making nine saves.
The Saints will be back in action this Saturday, March 23rd, as they host RV Molloy University at 11 a.m.
