WILMINGTON, DE – The D'Youville University baseball team fell to Goldey-Beacom College on Friday by a score of 15-6.
Â
Goldey-Beacom scored one in the bottom of the first and four in the third off LHP
Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Â
DYU saw an opportunity to score in the top of the third after DH
Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from CF
Dillon Crook (Liverpool, N.Y.). RF
Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) then reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, but Dzimian was thrown out at home trying to score, ending the inning.
Â
The Saints were able to cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth with two runs thanks to a bases-loaded walk drawn by LF
Caden Strobel (Pittstown, Pa.) and an RBI single from Dzimian to make it 5-2.
Â
However, Goldey-Beacom would get those runs right back in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 7-2. The Lightning tacked on three more in the sixth to make it 10-2.
Â
SS
Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) led off the top of the eighth with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. A double from 1B
Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) brought Morris home and made it 10-3. LF
Nick DiCarlo (Lewiston, N.Y.) then brought Simpson around to score with an RBI single to make it 10-4. Dzimian followed with a single for his third hit of the game, but the Saints would not score any more runs in the inning.
Â
In the top of the ninth, after
Chris Neino singled and
Chris Stefan (Oakville, Ontario) was hit by a pitch,
Derek Onevelo brought them home with a two-run double to make it 15-6.
Â
D'Youville will look to bounce back tomorrow as they play a doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom starting at 12:00 p.m.
