LAKEWOOD, N.J. – In their first road contest of the season, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team fell to Georgian Court University by a score of 17-4 Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints (2-4) were led by
Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y.) with three goals while
Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y.) added the other goal.
Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y.) added an assist on the day.
Sam Newlin (Austin, Texas) and
Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y.) each had four draw controls to get the offense started.
Newlin led the way with five groundballs with Gordon adding four. Handley and Newlin led the defense in caused turnovers, causing two each.
After the Lions scored the first goal of the day, DYU responded as Handley tied the game at 1-1 just under five minutes into the game. GCU responded to the Saints' goal, scoring 10 unanswered to close out the half to take an 11-1 lead into the break.
The Lions continued their strong offense to start the second half, scoring four more goals to extend their lead. Handley halted the run, getting her second goal of the day at the 10:25 mark of the fourth quarter. GCU got one back before Buck and Handley scored back-to-back goals to continue the fight.
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y.) saw a bulk of the time in net, making seven saves.
Fantasy Jimerson-Kenjockety (Seneca Nation, N.Y.) saw her first action of the season, spending eight minutes in goal.
The Saints will continue their trip out east as they travel to Wilmington University on Thursday for a 3 p.m. game.
