Engelhardt Nets Career-High Seven Goals as Saints Down Chargers

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Making the trip downstate, the D'Youville University men's lacrosse team picked up the 14-11 win over Dominican University Saturday afternoon for the team's first win of the young season.

Logan Schwartz (Depew, N.Y.) led the defensive effort with four groundballs and four caused turnovers. Brody Strong (Gores Landing, Ontario) also had a solid game, grabbing three groundballs and causing three turnovers.

The Chargers got on the board first, but DYU responded with goals by Gonzalez and Ruffalo to take the 2-1 lead. Dominican got two goals back before Ruffalo tied things up at 3-3 at the 7:33 mark off the assists from Engelhardt.

The teams traded goals well into the second quarter with Sholett tying the game at 6-6 with just over six minutes before the break. Kent was able to give DYU the lead with one tic remaining before break off the feed from Schwartz to make it 7-6.

Coming out of the break, Engelhardt kept the momentum for the Saints as he scored back-to-back goals in just under a minute to make it 9-6 with 12:12 left in the third.

The Chargers tried to keep pace with the potent D'Youville offense but could only cut the deficit to one goal. Engelhardt was able to salt the game away late in the fourth, scoring back-to-back goals to help secure the win.
