PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Closing out their 2024 portion of the season schedule, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to Holy Family University by the score of 78-73 Sunday afternoon.
The Saints (2-10) were led offensively by
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) with 24 points while
Trayton Trice (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) added 12 points.
Nelson St. Louis (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Port St. Lucie) led the team on the glass, grabbing six rebounds.
D'Youville started out strong, opening the game with an 11-2 run that started with a three-pointer from
Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) and ended with a three-pointer from
Renard Fontes-Jules (Brockton, Mass./Olympus Sports Academy). DYU held off the Tigers for 13 minutes of action in the opening frame but a jumper at the 6:50 gave them their first lead of the game. Moore quickly got the Saints the lead back with a three-pointer but did not hold for long as Holy Family took a 31-30 lead into the break.
Coming out of the half, both teams traded blows, but a 10-2 run helped DYU get the 47-49 lead with 14:37 left in regulation. DYU got contributions from many players including a three from Trice. The Tigers kept paced and battled back, regaining the lead with nine minutes to go. DYU kept the game within reach and got the two-point lead off a basket from
Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y./IMG Academy) but a three-pointer from the Tigers helped them get the lead for the final time.
D'Youville went 25-for-58 (43.1 percent) from the field while Holy Family went 25-for-60 (41.7 percent) from the floor. HFU held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 41 rebounds to DYU's 33 boards.
The Saints will take a brief hiatus before they return home to play Frostburg State University on Friday, January 3rd, for a 6 p.m. tip.
