BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team was defeated 63-50 by Saint Anselm College at the Saints Center on Saturday.

Freshman
Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y.) facilitated the offense for the Saints, scoring a career-high 12 points and dishing out a team-high four assists. Senior
Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, recorded three steals, and added seven points. Senior
Sofie Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg) contributed eight points and a team-high four steals for DYU.

The Saints got out to a 5-2 lead over the first three minutes thanks to a three-pointer from Fuglsang and a fastbreak layup from freshman
Allie Hall (Rochester, N.Y.). Vallone Russell knocked down a three-pointer to make it 10-4 Saints at the halfway point of the first quarter. Freshman
Samantha Ruhlman (Warren, Pa.) cashed in a three-pointer of her own and junior
Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) made a mid-range jumper to increase the lead to 15-6 with 1:44 remaining in the quarter. Saint Anselm ripped off a seven-point run to cut it to 15-13 as the first quarter expired.

Two straight three-pointers from Vallone Russell to start the quarter brought DYU's lead back to eight. A 9-2 run by Saint Anselm cut it to 23-22 before a baseline jumper and a layup by freshman
Kaitlyn Mankins (Greensburg, Pa.) extended the Saints' lead back to five. The Hawks closed out the half on a 7-2 run and the game went to halftime tied at 29.

After Saint Anselm took the lead to start the third quarter, Jankovic nailed a three-pointer to put DYU back in front by one. A three-pointer from Vallone Russell followed by a layup from Jankovic made it 37-35 Saints at the 6:28 mark. However, the Hawks rattled off twelve-straight points and DYU found themselves down by ten with 2:19 left in the third quarter. Mankins put in a layup to cut it to 47-39 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.

Six straight points from Saint Anselm opened up a 14-point lead for the Hawks in the early goings of the fourth quarter. Fuglsang knocked down a three-pointer to cut the Saints' deficit to 11 with 5:43 remaining. A pair of layups from junior
Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and a layup from Mankins kept DYU within 11 with 1:26 left in regulation, but the lead was too large to overcome, and Saint Anselm would go on to win 63-50.

The loss drops D'Youville to 2-3. They will be back in action on Wednesday when they face Edinboro University on the road.
