Saints Clinch Postseason Berth With Win Over Daemen

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville University men's soccer team clinched their spot in the ECC Tournament with a 3-1 win over Daemen University on Saturday.

The Saints outshot the Wildcats seven to four and got goals from senior Charlie Stewart (Aberdeen, Scotland), sophomore Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Ontario), and freshman Shawn Richardson (Thailand, Sweden). Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded three saves for DYU.

Stewart put the Saints ahead early, as he was able to find the back of the net in the sixth minute to make it 1-0.

In the 19th minute, Richardson got a chance to extend the lead, but his shot was saved by the Daemen goalkeeper, and there wasn't much action for the rest of the half as the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The Wildcats pulled even in the 53rd minute, as they were able to get one past Solorio to make it 1-1.

D'Youville got a few good looks at goal in the next few minutes, as Robinson, junior Asier Fernandez (Betera, Spain), and freshman Dylan Danch (Erie, Pa.) all got shots off but couldn't convert.

In the 74th minute, Robinson broke through the defense and scored the go-ahead goal on the feed from freshman Conor Livingstone (Derby, England) to make it 2-1.

The Saints tacked on another in the 78th minute when Richardson converted a penalty kick to make it 3-1 and put the nail in the coffin.

D'Youville finishes the regular season 5-7-4 (3-2-3 ECC) and clinches their first ECC Postseason berth in program history. They will host Molloy University at Dobson Field on Thursday in the first round. The two teams tied 1-1 in their first meeting this season.
