EDINBORO, Pa. – In the midst of their four-game road trip to open up the season, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Wednesday by a score of 87-78.
 
The Saints (1-2) had four players score in double digits with Dawson Matsell (Hamilton, Ontario/Orangeville Prep) leading the way with 16 points with Jaylin Simmons (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) adding 14 points. Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) and Jordan Turner (Houston, Texas/Sunrise Christian) adding 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
DYU found themselves down early in the game, trailing by 10 at the 15:52 mark of the first half. D'Youville did not waver, chipping away at the Scots lead. The Saints went on a 6-0 run with just under five minutes left in the half, capped off by a three-pointer from Matsell. Edinboro got a two-possession lead once again, but it was Matsell who answered for D'Youville, scoring eight straight to tie the game at 40-40. Simmons scored a layup in the final seconds to give DYU the lead going into the break.
 
In the second half, DYU got their own tow-possession lead thanks in part to a jam from Moore to give DYU a 46-41 lead. The teams traded blows over the next few minutes until the Scots got their final lead of the game at the 14:08 mark of the second half. Edinoboro grew leads of 11 points of a few occasions, but the Saints were able to battle back, cutting the deficit to as little as four but the Scots score five-straight to close the game out.
 
DYU went 28-for-59 (47.5 percent) from the field while Edinboro went 29-for-57 (50.9 percent) from the floor. The Scots controlled the glass, grabbing 44 rebounds to the Saints' 25.
 
D'Youville will close out their road trip this Saturday as they travel to Mansfield University for a 3 p.m. tip.
