BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University men's soccer team battled ECC opponent University of the District of Columbia to a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field.

The Saints outshot the Firebirds seven to four and senior
Paulo Carvalho (Brazil) scored DYU's lone goal, his second of the season. Freshman goalkeeper
Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded three saves.

Shawn Richardson (Thailand, Sweden) provided the Saints' first shot on goal of the day in the eighth minute, but his shot was saved by the Firebirds.

In the 17
th minute, Carvalho saw scoring chance, but his shot was saved as well.

Frederick Balmforth (Oslo, Norway) ripped a shot on goal in the 23
rd minute, but his shot was steered away by the District of Columbia goalkeeper.

The Firebirds gained the early 1-0 edge on a penalty kick goal in the 28
th minute.

Balmforth saw another opportunity to score in the early goings of the second half, but his shot once again was saved.

In the 70
th minute, the Saints finally broke through as Carvalho scored the equalizer to make it 1-1.

In the 78
th minute, Carvalho saw a chance to put DYU ahead, but his shot was saved, and the 1-1 tie would hold as time expired.

With the tie, D'Youville's record moves to 4-7-4 and 2-2-3 in the ECC. The Saints will close out their regular season next Saturday on the road against crosstown rival Daemen University.
