BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Volleyball Team suffered a tough loss at home to Daemen University in four sets.
D'Youville University 1 vs Daemen University 3 – (25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 23-25)
Set One
The Saints got ahead early in set one following two Wildcats errors and a kill from
Mitha Hatwar (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Liberty) to lead 10-7.
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) delivered a kill along with two aces from Hatwar to extend their lead to 13-8. Daemen worked their way back to retake the lead at 19-17, but the Saints put together a four-point run to jump ahead 21-19.
Cameron Ulinski (Parkland, FL / Marjory Stoneman Douglas) and Maddy O'Brien both recorded kills in the final four-point run that gave the Saints the 25-21 win in set one.
Set Two
Kills from O'Brien and
Alex Darby (Huntington, WV / Spring Valley) tied the game at nine in set two, but the Wildcats would string together five points to go up 14-9. The Saints worked to stay in the game, but the Wildcats reached game point at 24-20. Two Wildcats errors and a service ace from
Emma Wlostowski (Alden, N.Y. / Alden) put the Saints within one, but a final kill for Daemen gave them the 25-23 win in set two.
Set Three
The Wildcats carried their momentum into set three quickly jumping ahead 14-9. D'Youville fought to stay close with Hatwar, O'Brien, Darby, and Ulinski all recording kills, but the Wildcats offense stayed on top and Daemen took the third set 25-19.
Set Four
D'Youville got an early lead in the fourth set to take the momentum back after kills from
Alex Darby and
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, FL / School for Advanced Studies) put the Saints ahead 6-3. Daemen clawed their way back to take the 14-13 lead, but the Saints slowed their momentum putting together a four-point run to go up 17-14. D'Youville's offense stayed hot as they reached 22-18, but the Wildcats put together a five-point run to take a late 23-22 lead.
Cameron Ulinski recorded the final kill for the Saints before the Wildcats would take the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
