BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Volleyball Team won another big East Coast Conference matchup on Sunday after defeating Roberts Wesleyan 3-1.
D'Youville University 3 vs Roberts Wesleyan 1 – (25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 26-24)
Set One
The Redhawks took the early lead in set one jumping up 13-10, but a Redhawk error and three service aces from
Samantha Killane (Vero Beach, FL / Lincoln Park Academy) in a row gave the Saints the 14-13 lead. Roberts fought to retake the lead and tied the game at 20. A bad set by the Redhawks along with kills from
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) and
Cameron Ulinski (Parkland, FL / Marjory Stoneman Douglas) put the Saints ahead 23-20. Ulinski and
Alex Darby (Huntington, WV / Spring Valley) recorded the final two kills for the Saints to give them the 25-20 win in the first set.
Set Two
The Saints carried the momentum into set two and jumped up 5-0 following another three service aces in a row from
Samantha Killane. As DYU climbed, the Redhawks fought back until they led 9-7. D'Youville retied the game at 13 and took the lead at 16-14 following a kill from
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, FL / School for Advanced Studies). Again, the Redhawks fought back, taking the 22-21 lead. Roberts put together a three-point run to win set two 25-21.
Set Three
Roberts Wesleyan took a quick 5-1 lead in set two. The Saints put together a huge ten-point run including four aces from
Emma Wlostowski (Alden, N.Y. / Alden) to jump ahead 11-5. The Saints added five more to jump ahead 16-6. D'Youville continued to climb until they led 24-13. Roberts got one back, but a final kill from
Maddie Boglev (Hamburg, N.Y. / St. Mary's) gave the Saints the 25-14 win in set three.
Set Four
Roberts Wesleyan again took the lead in the fourth set, but the Saints fought hard to tie the set at eight following a kill from O'Brien. The Saints took their first lead of the set after a seven-point run put them ahead 16-11. Roberts fought their way back until they led 22-21. D'Youville tied the game at 23, but again Roberts took the one-point advantage. Two kills from O'Brien and one kill from Ulinski pushed the Saints ahead giving them the 26-24 win in set four and the 3-1 match win.
