Saints Drop 3-1 Matchup to Wilmington

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Volleyball Team fell to Wilmington University (Del.) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at home.

Set One
The Wildcats took the early 6-3 lead in the first set, but the Saints came right back scoring four-in-a-row. Mitha Hatwar (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Liberty) and Giselle Ramirez (Miami, FL / School for Advanced Studies) both recorded kills in the run along with back-to-back service aces from Eve Musielak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden). The Saints extended their lead to 12-8 following a Wildcats error. As gameplay continued, the Saints led by one at 19-18, but Wilmington would score three in-a-row to take the 21-19 lead. Cameron Ulinski (Parkland, FL / Marjory Stoneman Douglas) recorded two kills for the Saints, but the Wildcats would take set one 25-21.

Set Two
The Wildcats got on top in the second set taking the 9-8 lead, but the Saints stayed close and strung together a three-point run to tie the game at 15. Wilmington again took the lead, but the Saints retied at 20 following a kill from Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) and two Wilmington errors. Gameplay continued back and forth until the score reties at 26. The Wildcats would earn the final two points in the set to win 28-26.

Set Three
Kills from Ulinski, O'Brien, and Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash. / Bainbridge) propelled D'Youville to a 7-2 lead to start the third set. The Wildcats fought back and took the 15-13 lead and held it until they led 18-16. The Saints offense hit their stride scoring eight in-a-row to put them at game point at 24-18. The Wildcats got two points back, but the Saints took set three 25-20 to stay alive.  

Set Four
The Saints again got ahead in the fourth set jumping out to a 9-7 lead. As gameplay continued, the Saints slowly extended their lead with the Wildcats staying close until DYU was ahead 23-20. The Wildcats fought hard scoring five in-a-row to take the 25-23 win in set four and the 3-1 match win.

The Saints are back home for an ECC matchup next Saturday, October 19th against Roberts Wesleyan University at 12:00 PM.
