Saints Push Past Terriers in Five

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY- The D'Youville University men's volleyball team competed in another conference matchup between the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn College ultimately ending in the Saints coming out on top, 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12).

First Set

  • Things were at a standstill when the scoreboard read, 7-7 the Terriers took that moment in time to pursue a lead which they achieved by producing a 3-0 run, 10-7.
  • Saints got the score narrowed down to as low as two points with a kill that came from Malak, 16-14.
  • That sequence was the closest the Saints had in trying to find their way back into the set but were unable to do so due to the pace that SFC presented, 25-22.

Second Set

  • DYU wasted no time getting situated in this set as they went on a 6-0 run to get themselves acquainted, 7-1.
  • As the Saints led for most of the set, they stretched out the difference in score by nine points, assuring their lead to be comfortable, 12-3.
  • From there on the scoring slowed down for the Saints allowing SFC to be gifted seven points off errors made by DYU.
  • Mistakes such as these were unable to phase the Saints as they still came out on top in the set despite the mistakes made, 25-21.

Third Set

  • Both teams were going at each other in the early going until the Saints were able to find their groove by scoring four consecutive points putting them out in front, 11-7.
  • DYU executed a lead of six points that was powered by another 4-0 run that came from the efficiency that the Saints were putting out, 16-10.
  • Going forward the Saints gathered four kills having the final one come about as the final score that solidified a DYU victory in the set, 25-21.

Fourth Set

  • This set proved to be a more competitive one than the rest as numerous lead changes occurred throughout the set.
  • The lead was only able to get extended out by as much as three points favoring the Terriers, 17-14.
  • When the score was even at, 20-20 SFC concluded with the win as they managed to record three kills that help put them in front, 25-23.

Fifth Set

  • DYU had a step on the Terriers in this set not allowing SFC to develop their footing by not going on runs or capitalizing on errors that were committed.
  • The five errors made by SFC made it difficult for them to climb their way back into the set which meant the second NEC victory of the season for DYU, 15-12.

The Saints will be on the road to take on the Sharks of Long Island University on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 7:00 p.m. from Steinberg Wellness Center.
