Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Kacper Taudul's 19-kill, 17-dig double-double performance on Saturday afternoon inside the College Center Gym highlighted a hard-fought battle won by the D'Youville University men's volleyball team over Elmira College 3-1 (25-22, 29-27. 21-25, 25-20).
The win for the Saints snapped a 13-match losing streak to Elmira that dated back to Feb. 20, 2013 with the last victory in the series coming on Feb. 22, 2012, 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 10-15) in Buffalo.
First Set
· DYU would see a see-saw affair break out as neither team could string together more than two consecutive points until after EC took a 17-16 lead.
· EC would see its one-point lead evaporate into a three-point deficit thanks to kills from DYU's Haven Wankerl, Taudul and Anthony Dean in order followed by an attack error on EC.
· With DYU ahead 22-18, EC put together a 4-1 run to close it to 23-22 before the Saints got a kill by Randy Adorno and an RC attack error by Alberto Mauricio to close out the set.
Second Set
· The fans in attendance were treated to another set that neither team wanted to lose as a back-and-forth battle ensued with no more than a pair of points earned in a row occurring once again until late in the set.
· DYU turned a two-point deficit into a two-point lead with a pair of kills and a pair of EC attack errors.
· DYU staved off two set points to earn the set win by taking four of the final five points.
Third Set
· DYU jumped out to a 7-2 lead thanks to three kills by Wankerl, three attack errors from EC and a service error from EC.
· Down 9-4, the Soaring Eagles strung together a scoring run of 11-2 to take a 15-11 lead.
· The Saints simply could not recover and hit just .091 (10-7-33) for the set, which would prove to be their worst hitting percentage of any of the four sets.
Fourth Set
· DYU would then force EC into its worst single-set hitting percentage of the match when the Soaring Eagles attacked at just a .086 clip (11-8-35).
· The Saints owned a lead by as many as five on two different occasions (9-4 and 17-12) before coasting the rest of the way for the set and match victory.
· The fourth set ended with the one thing that both teams must work on going forward and that is back-to-back service errors as both teams combined for 33 on the match.
