Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The D'Youville University men's volleyball team broke out three sets of brooms after defeating American International College 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon inside the Henry Butova Gymnasium.
One set of brooms was for the three-set sweep, another for the weekend sweep after downing the Yellow Jackets on Friday and a third for completing the season sweep after taking out AIC at home inside the College Center Gym on Fri., Jan. 20.
First Set
- DYU (6-8) jumped out to a 10-4 lead thanks to a few hitting errors by AIC (2-14) and Jacob Malak tallying three kills during the match-opening run.
- Back-to-back service aces from Anthony Dean would give the Saints a 15-11 lead.
- An AIC service error and three consecutive attack errors closed out the first set with DYU winning 25-18.
Second Set
- The Saints led by as many as eight in the set at 15-7 thanks in large part to an offense that seemed to be clicking on all cylinders with five different players collecting at least on kill each.
- Malak collected five kills during the set that saw DYU hit at a .423 clip (15-4-26).
- Leading just 21-18, DYU got a kill from Haven Wankerl the back-to-back attack errors from AIC before Dean's kill closed out the set 25-19.
Third Set
- With the set tied at 11-11, DYU used a 13-3 run to take an insurmountable 24-14 lead.
- Attack error after attack error plagued AIC all set having committed seven during the large Saints run alone.
