Box Score BUFFALO, NY – The D'Youville University men's basketball team trailed #16 St. Thomas Aquinas College, the ECC regular season champions, 39-35 at the half but a 50-plus point second half from the Spartans pushed them past the Saints 93-71 on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints' honored their three seniors, Willie Kondrat, Latrell Butler and Noah Denz before the game.
First Half
- Rod Johnson's layup cut the DYU deficit to five, 17-12 halfway through the first stanza
- A triple from Butler pulled DYU within two, 25-23, with 6:23 left before the break
- The Saints got within one before a far wing three at the buzzer gave STAC a 39-35 advantage after 20 minutes of play.
Second Half:
- STAC used a 10-run to extend the margin to 57-42, six minutes into the second half
- DYU countered with a 9-2 run to get the differential back to single digits, 61-53, after a Kondrat triple with 11:06 remaining in the contest
- The Spartans used a three of their own to push the lead back to 15, 71-56, with 7:32 to go as they cruised to a 93-71 road win down the stretch.
