BUFFALO, N.Y. - Former D'Youville University men's basketball standout
Maxence Massadila is taking the next step in his basketball career after signing a professional contract with ABBR Côte d'Opale Sud in France.
After helping lead the Saints to one of the most successful seasons in program history, Massadila now returns to his home country to begin his professional career.
Massadila made an immediate impact during his lone season in Buffalo, serving as the Saints' floor general while guiding D'Youville to its first East Coast Conference Championship appearance since becoming a full NCAA Division II and ECC member during the 2023-24 academic year.
The Saints not only reached the conference tournament but also secured the program's first-ever ECC Tournament victory, advancing to the semifinals in a historic postseason run.
A steady presence at point guard, Massadila averaged 8.9 points per game while orchestrating one of the conference's top offenses. His 116 assists rank as the second-most in a single season in D'Youville program history, highlighting both his court vision and ability to elevate those around him.
Throughout the season, Massadila consistently demonstrated his ability to distribute the basketball at a high level. He recorded a career-high 11 assists against Molloy University on Jan. 16 and reached double-digit assists on three separate occasions.
Beyond the statistics, Massadila's leadership, poise, and basketball IQ proved instrumental in the Saints' success, helping establish a new standard for the program as it continues to build within the East Coast Conference.
Now, Massadila will continue his career with ABBR Côte d'Opale Sud, where he will compete professionally in France while becoming the latest D'Youville men's basketball alumnus to reach the professional ranks.
His signing serves as another milestone for the Saints' program, demonstrating D'Youville's continued ability to prepare student-athletes for opportunities beyond the collegiate level.

ABBR Côte d'Opale Sud is a French basketball club founded in 1929 as Association Sportive de Berck and based in the town of Berck. It experienced its golden age in the 1970s, enjoying a meteoric rise from the federal league to the French championship in just five years. The club won two French championship titles in 1973 and 1974 and reached the semi-finals of the European Champions Cup in 1974 and 1975. After being relegated from the top flight in the 1980s, the club climbed back up, playing in Nationale 2 and then Nationale 1 starting in the 2015-2016 season, only to be relegated back to Nationale 2 the following season. The club returned to Nationale 1 at the end of the 2022-2023 season and has remained there ever since.
