BUFFALO – The D'Youville University women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the ECC with a commanding 68-46 win over Queens College on Friday night.

Junior
Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) led the offense for the Saints with 19 points and led the team in rebounds with eight. Redshirt sophomore
Haleigh Schafer (Eggharbor City, N.J.) scored a season-high 12 points on 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomore
Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) also chipped in 11 points and five rebounds. Junior
Stella Mollica (Shillington, Pa.) facilitated the offense well with eight assists and eight points.

Giancaterino got the scoring started for the Saints with a mid-range jumper to put them up early in the first quarter. DYU and Queens traded baskets throughout the entire quarter, as the largest run was a 4-0 run from Queens to take a 10-8 lead with 4:45 left in the quarter. The Knights were able to take a 14-12 lead heading into the second quarter.

A 6-0 run from the Saints put them ahead 18-16 halfway through the second quarter. After the Knights retook the lead, a three-pointer from Jankovic put DYU back in front with 3:35 left in the quarter. The Saints closed the half on a 7-2 run, as freshman
Kayla Creighton (Innisfil, Canada) made a layup at the buzzer to send DYU to halftime with a 31-26 advantage.

The Saints came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders, taking control of the game with a 20-2 run over the first seven minutes of the third quarter. A layup from junior
Jaelyn Vleer-Elliott (Waterville, N.Y.) kickstarted the run for the Saints, followed by two three-pointers from Jankovic. Mollica sank two close-range jumpers to make it a 20-point lead for the Saints. Schafer poured in two three-pointers to extend their lead to 23. At the end of the third quarter, D'Youville held a 51-35 lead.

The Saints kept their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter, starting the final frame on a 17-2 run. Sophomore
Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) opened up the quarter with a 15-footer. Two consecutive three-pointers from Schafer made it 61-37 Saints with 6:34 left to play. Creighton dropped in a three-pointer to cap the Saints' 17-2 run and make it 68-37 with 3:18 remaining.

D'Youville will be back in action on Sunday when they face conference rival Molloy University at 12:00 p.m.
