ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team fell to 2-1 in ECC play after losing to Molloy University on Sunday by a score of 55-46.

Junior Jaelyn Vleer-Elliott (Waterville, N.Y.) led the scoring for the Saints with a season-high 13 points, while also adding seven boards. Junior Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) led the team in rebounding with 13 and added eight points on the offensive side of the ball.

The Saints got out to an early 4-2 lead off free throws from Jankovic and a hook shot from Vleer-Elliott. The Lions, however, would not let the Saints score again in the quarter and went on a 13-0 run to take a 15-4 lead heading into the second quarter.

DYU began to chip away at Molloy's lead early in the second quarter with a 9-2 run, which included four points from Vleer-Elliott and a three-pointer from senior Brianne Moxley (Penfield, N.Y.), to make it 17-13 Molloy with 4:21 remaining. However, the Lions would close the quarter on a 6-1 run to extend their lead back out to nine heading into halftime.

Junior Stella Mollica (Shillington, Pa.) got the Saints off to a hot start in the second half, sinking two mid-range jumpers. A layup from sophomore Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and a 15-footer from Moxley made it 27-22 Molloy with 6:40 left in the third quarter. Vleer-Elliott sank mid-range jumpers on consecutive possessions to keep the Saints within five with four minutes to go. The Lions would end up taking a seven-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Saints would not go down without a fight. A hook shot from Vleer-Elliott, a three-pointer from Mollica, and a layup from Jankovic knotted the game up at 40 with eight minutes to play. A mid-range jumper from Jankovic and a layup from freshman Mercy Lasu (Winnipeg, Canada) kept the Saints even with the Lions at 46 with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter. Molloy would end the game on a 9-0 run to secure the victory.
