BUFFALO, N.Y. – Returning to the College Center after nearly three weeks, the D'Youville University men's basketball team came away with a 65-58 win over Edinboro University Wednesday evening. With the win, the Saints extend their win streak to three games, the first time since the 2019-20 season.
The Saints (4-6, 2-1 ECC) were once again led by
Trayton Trice (Romeoville, Ill.) who went 9-for-11 (81.8 percent) from the floor for 24 points with
Chase Jenkins (Titusville, Fla.) adding 19 points and eight rebounds.
Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points, five dimes and four steals.
DYU jumped out to a big lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, going up 21-10. Trice fueled the opening run, scoring nine points including the team's first points via three-pointer off the feed from Jenkins.
The Fighting Scots were able to get back into the game over the next five minutes of action, taking the lead on a 14-2 run.
D'Youville kept pace with Edinboro, coming close to retaking the lead but the Fighting Scots held strong. Trice knotted the game up at 32-32 with under a minute left for the Saints, followed by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from
Mason Putnam (Prattsburgh, N.Y.) to take the 35-32 lead going into the break.
Coming into the second half of action, DYU used the momentum Putnam gave them at the end of the first half well into the second half, building a lead by as many as 15 points with over five minutes to play in the game. The Saints used a 9-1 run to gain the 15-point advantage which was started by a three ball from Trice.
The Fighting Scots did cut the deficit under 10 late in the game but a pair of free throws from Putnam salted the game away.
The Saints went 23-for-53 (43.4 percent) from the field and 8-for-16 (50 percent) from beyond the arc while the Fighting Scots went 18-for-55 (32.7 percent) from the floor and 2-for-17 (11.8 percent) from three-point range. DYU also held the huge advantage in points off turnovers, outscoring Edinboro 25-9.
DYU will look to extend their win streak to four this Friday, December 15th, as they host the College of Saint Rose at 7 p.m.
