BUFFALO, N.Y. – Back home for their second of three games, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to The College of Saint Rose Friday evening by a score of 67-53.
The Saints (4-7, 2-1 ECC) were led once again by
Chase Jenkins (Titusville, Fla.) with 19 points while
Mason Putnam (Prattsburgh, N.Y.) added 11 points.
Dut Kuol (Aweil, South Sudan) led the team on the glass, grabbing five boards while
Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y.) had five assists.
The Golden Knights started out strong, scoring the game's first five points but a three by Putnam and a layup by Jenkins tied the game up in the early moments. Saints Rose regained the lead and pushed their lead by two possessions on a few occasions. DYU got their first lead of the game after another three by Putnam and a layup by
Bryson Birdsong (Winter Haven, Fla.) gave D'Youville the 14-13 lead at the 13:21 mark of the first half.
After trading the lead over the next few possessions, the Saints got the three-point lead with Birdsong knocking down a pair of free throws.
Saints Rose got the lead back with just under eight minutes left in the first half and built their lead to as many as seven in the at the 1:51 mark. Hutchins was able to pull the Saints within four, knocking down a three-pointer to make it 35-31 going into the break.
The Golden Knights were able to hold onto the lead in the first five minutes after the break by Jenkins made a pair of free throws to give DYU the 42-41 lead. Saint Rose gained the lead once again, up 44-42 with 11:43 left in the second half before Putnam once again drained a three off the dish from
Renard Fontes-Jules (Brockton, Mass.).
Saint Rose got their final lead with just under 10 minutes left in the game after Nuha Sagnia converted a pair of free throws.
The Saints went 18-for-55 (32.7 percent) from the field and 7-for-24 (29.2 percent) from beyond the arc. The Golden Knights went 19-for-51 (37.3 percent) from the floor and 5-for-13 (38.5 percent) from three-point range. Saint Rose held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 46 rebounds to DYU's 27 rebounds.
D'Youville will be back at the College Center next Tuesday, December 19th, as they host Felician University at 12 p.m.
