Men's Basketball Starts Regular Season Play This Weekend at the Caldwell University Conference Challenge

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University men's basketball team will officially start the 2023-24 season this weekend as they travel to New Jersey to play in the Caldwell University Conference Challenge against Dominican University and host Caldwell.

In their season opening exhibition game, the Saints traveled to Binghamton University, falling by a score of 88-56. DYU was led offensively by Nasir Hammonds (Norfolk, Va.) and Trayton Trice (Romeoville, Ill.) with eight points each while Luke Theisen (Lake View, N.Y.) and Chase Jenkins (Titusville, Fla.) each chipped in with seven points. Trice and Hammonds led the way on the glass as well, grabbing eight and five rebounds, respectively.

  • Dominican comes into the new season as the preseason ranked number two team in the north division of the CACC Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • The Chargers are coming off a 21-9 record during the 2022-23 season and a trip to the NCAA DII East Regionals.
  • Dominican returns their third leading scorer from a year ago in Javel Cherry who averaged 9.3 points per game.
  • On the boards, the Chargers return their second leading rebounder in Seth Sharif-Brown who averaged 6.1 rebounds per game.

  • Caldwell returns their top three scorers from a year ago in Darnell Evans (18.8 ppg), Mark Heber (14.8 ppg), and Derrick Bueno (10.7 ppg).
  • Bueno was also the team's second leading rebounder from last season, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game.
  • This will be the team's first meeting.
