Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team defeated the Dominican University Chargers 3-2 on Friday night.
D'Youville University 3 vs Dominican University 2 – (23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-21, 15-9)
First Set
The Saints started the night with the lead jumping ahead 6-2 after a kill from
Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge). The Chargers fought back, but the Saints did not give up the lead until the set tied at 16. The Chargers then took the lead and held it going on to win the set 25-23.
Second Set
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, Fla./ School for Advanced Studies) began set two with a kill to put the Saints ahead. Once they got ahead, they never looked back, holding the lead for the entire set. The Saints steadily put points on the board and a service ace from
Mitha Hatwar (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) put the Saints up 21-11. With the Saints up 23-17, the Chargers began to fight back going on a four-point run. However, two Chargers errors gave the Saints a 25-18 win in set two.
Third Set
The Chargers took control in set three jumping out to a 10-6 lead. Four Chargers errors and a kill from
Giselle Ramirez put the lead back in the Saints hands. From there, match play was even with the lead going back and forth until the score reached an even 25.
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y.) had the kill that put the Saints on top and
Mitha Hatwar delivered the service ace that gave the Saints the 27-25 win.
Fourth Set
The Chargers again got up 10-5 in the fourth set, but a kill from
Eve Musielak (Eden, N.Y./Eden) ignited the Saints offense. From there the Saints scored ten consecutive points to take the lead 16-10. The Chargers went on a run of their own, reclaiming the lead at 18-16. A kill from
Madeline O'Brien put the Saints behind at 22-20 and the Chargers would go on to win the fourth set 25-21.
Fifth Set
Samantha Killane (Vero Beach, Fla./ Lincoln Park Academy) started off the must-win set with a service ace and a Chargers error, and two Saints kills put them up 4-1. As match play continued, the Chargers tied the set at 6. Again, the Saints regained the lead only giving up three more points in the set.
Madeline O'Brien delivered the final kill of the game giving the Saints the 15-9 win in the set and the 3-2 match win.

The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team is back in action tomorrow at 12:00 pm at Mercy University for an ECC matchup. The Saints then continue on to Queens University on Sunday for a 12:00 pm match to finish the weekend.
