BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville (11-10, 4-1 ECC) defeated Molloy (7-12, 2-3 ECC) 3-1 on Saturday at Saints Center Gym. D'Youville moved ahead in the third set after trailing 10-8, turning that deficit into a 13-11 lead before finishing the match with set scores of 23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-19.
D'Youville recovered from a 6-2 deficit in the first set, tying it at 9-9 on a
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, FL / School for Advanced Studies) service ace, a block by
Ashley Ballou (Eden, N.Y. Eden) and
Maddie Boglev (Hamburg, N.Y. / St. Mary's), and a
Cameron Ulinski (Bretten, Germany / Marjory Stoneman Douglas) kill from Ballou. The set stayed tight late, and
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) delivered consecutive kills to pull D'Youville even at 22-22 before the teams reached 23-23. The Lions scored the final two points to take the set, 25-23.
D'Youville created separation in the second set by winning seven of eight rallies from 14-12 to 21-13, a stretch that included a
Cameron Ulinski kill, a
Giselle Ramirez kill, a Ramirez ace and a block by Ballou and
Maddie Boglev. The Lions came back to tie the set at 22-22 and again at 24-24, but D'Youville answered with a Lions service error and an
Angelyn Jaramillo (Houston, TX / Langham Creek) ace to finish a 26-24 set win.
D'Youville closed out a tight third set, with
Giselle Ramirez blocking the Lions for a 25-24 edge before finishing the 26-24 set with a kill from Ballou. Earlier, D'Youville erased a 10-8 deficit with kills from
Cameron Ulinski and
Maddie Boglev, a combined block by Ulinski and Boglev, and Ballou's ace during a push to 13-11.
After the Lions moved within 21-19, D'Youville scored the final four points of the fourth set, getting kills from
Madeline O'Brien and
Cameron Ulinski before two Lions attack errors closed it out. Ulinski finished the set with four kills and a service ace, while O'Brien added three kills and an ace as D'Youville took the set 25-19.
Cameron Ulinski led D'Youville with 12 kills and added 15 digs.
Angelyn Jaramillo collected 19 digs and served three aces. Ballou finished with 33 assists, seven digs and three blocks.
Maddie Boglev posted six blocks and added five kills.
