BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville softball team concluded the 2022 regular season on the highest note possible, sweeping Molloy, 7-4 in nine innings in game one before taking game two 11-3, to finish 26-12 and 14-9 in the East Coast Conference. The 26-win mark sets a new program record for single-season wins, eclipsing the 25 wins D'Youville tallied in 2015.
The Saints struck first in the top of the first inning when freshman Gianna Adamo hit an RBI double to left-center that drove in senior Maddy Pepke.
After falling behind 3-1, a two-run triple off the bat of senior Mikaela Milleville and an RBI double via sophomore Mikayla Bush put the Saints back on top at 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning. The Lions would go on to deadlock the game at five in the bottom of the fifth inning to eventually send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the ninth, Milleville drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single back up the middle. In a pinch-hit situation, junior Jamie Bower added a couple of insurance runs with a two-run single later in the inning to put D'Youville ahead 7-4.
The Saints scored early and often in the nightcap. An RBI single from Adamo in the fourth inning followed by a two-run home run from junior Hannah Bardeen built a 6-0 lead for the Saints. Bardeen's trip around the bases was her sixth of the season.
After extending the lead to seven runs, Molloy cut their deficit to four runs at 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mikaela Milleville continued her big day in the top of the seventh with a two-run single and would later score on an infield single from her sister, senior Carly Milleville to create D'Youville's biggest lead of the game of eight runs at 11-3.
With eight hits in 10 at-bats on Saturday, Pepke broke her own single-season record of 59 hits set last season. She now has 64 hits this season with the USCAA National Tournament left to play. Pepke also set a new single-season record for runs scored as she has plated her 50th run in 2022 for the Saints on Saturday.
The Saints will turn their attention to postseason play where they are expected to earn a bid for their second consecutive appearance in the USCAA Small College World Series. The USCAA Selection Show is slated for May 8.
