Softball Falls Short in East Coast Conference Championship to St. Thomas Aquinas College

SPARKILL, N.Y. — D'Youville (22-20) fell 10–3 to St. Thomas Aquinas (33-12) at Spartan Field on Sunday in the East Coast Conference Championship game. D'Youville managed a home run among its three hits, but the Spartans powered through with 16 hits and three home runs to secure the victory.
D'Youville took an early lead in the third inning when Frankie Morris  (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) hit a home run to center field, driving in Danielle Fenlong (Georgetown, Ontario / Christ the King). This two-run shot gave D'Youville a 2–0 advantage at the end of the third inning.
St. Thomas Aquinas responded in the fourth with three runs after a series of singles, giving the Spartans a 3–2 lead at the end of the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, the Spartans extended their lead with a five-run performance. 
D'Youville added a run in the sixth inning when Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, B.C. / Belmont) advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout by Mikayla Hussar (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West). However, the Spartans added two more runs in the sixth with two solo home runs, moving the score to 10–3.
The game concluded with no further scoring in the seventh inning. The final score was St. Thomas Aquinas 10, D'Youville 3.
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East) started on the mound for D'Youville, pitching 4 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 10 hits, and striking out one batter while not issuing any walks. Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) relieved Clark, contributing 1 1/3 innings with 5 earned runs on 5 hits, including 2 home runs, and recording one strikeout. Hailee Jenkins (Ontario, Canada / Fenelon Falls) closed the game with 1 2/3 innings, allowing just 1 hit without any earned runs.
