BUFFALO, N.Y. - Entering Tuesday's East Coast Conference doubleheader with Staten Island, the D'Youville offense had yet to score in double figures in the 2022 campaign. That mark didn't last long in a pair of league victories, 11-3 and 12-2, with each game ending via the eight-run mercy rule. The Saints improve to 11-3 on the season and sit in sole possession of first place in the ECC after four games at 3-1.
The D'Youville bats didn't waste any time on a sunny afternoon at Dobson Field. The Saints plated four runs in the home half of the first inning. Senior Maddy Pepke got the Saints off on the right foot with an inside-the-park home run on D'Youville's first at-bat of the game. Pepke's trip around the bases was her first of the season and the fourth of her career, all without clearing the fence.
Later in the frame, sophomore Mikayla Bush added two more to the Saints' total with a two-run single, creating a 4-0 advantage.
The Saints were held scoreless for the next three innings until they tallied six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. A two-run double by reigning ECC Player of the Week Hannah Bardeen and a two-run single from Pepke highlighted the Saints' big inning.
D'Youville added one more in the sixth inning when senior Carly Milleville drove in a run with a single to right field.
Sophomore Lauren Booth (5-1) picked up her fifth win of the season in the D'Youville circle. In her six-inning complete-game outing, she fanned five batters and gave up no earned runs on six hits.
Freshman Gianna Adamo paced the Saints at the plate in Tuesday's opener, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored … She was followed up by Bush (2-for-3, 3 RBI), freshman Emily Przybysz (2-for-3, RBI), Pepke (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI), and Bardeen (2-for-4, 2 2Bs, 2 RBI).
The Saints kept their foot on the gas pedal in game two, doubling their first-inning run total from game one of four runs with eight in the first inning of the nightcap.
The big inning was highlighted by Carly Milleville's two-run double and a two-run single from her sister, Mikaela. Mikaela's two-run single to right field gave the Saints an 8-0 lead and it was the 100th hit of her D'Youville and collegiate career. Milleville became the second Saint to eclipse 100 collegiate hits after Pepke did so back on March 6 in the season-opening 3-0 win over Penn St.-DuBois.
The Milleville sisters were back it in the bottom of the third inning with each collecting RBI singles in a four-run frame that gave the Saints a 12-0 cushion.
Freshman Cassie Crerar (2-0) got the starting nod in game two and held the Dolphin offense at bay, striking out four and surrendering only one earned run on six hits.
Bush led the Saints in game two, going 3-for-3 with an RBI … Mikaela Milleville was also perfect at the plate with two hits in two at-bats with three RBI … The pair were followed up by Carly Milleville (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI) and Pepke (2-for-4, 2B, RBI).
The Saints return to ECC action at Dobson Field on Sunday, March 27, in a doubleheader with Mercy.
