In its second non-conference match of the season, the D'Youville women's tennis team was handed a 7-0 defeat by crosstown foe Daemen Saturday afternoon in Williamsville, N.Y.
Taking on their East Coast Conference rivals outside of the league schedule, the Saints moved to 6-0 overall, while the host Wildcats shifted to 4-3.
Sophomore Julia Clapper and junior Taylor Nash reunited for the second time this spring in the top doubles pairing, dropping a 6-0 contest to Daemen's Christina Stasiuk and Frida Rubio. The second doubles court saw improvement from the Saints, as junior Alisson Meissner and sophomore Faith Falkowski were able to scratch a few points to lose, 6-2, against the duo of Courtney Otis and Kayla Nguyen. In the third doubles match, sophomore Taylor-Anne Austin and freshman Katelyn Hoover were upended, 6-2, by Hannah Pagano and Mackenzie Schayes.
The singles part of the afternoon saw a pair of 6-0, 6-0 Daemen victories in the top-two matches, as Rubio edged Clapper and Stasiuk took down Falkowski. The third singles court saw Meissner fall to Nguyen (6-1, 6-0), while Nash battled Otisin the No. 4 matchup before ultimately losing (6-0, 6-2). Schayes proved too much for Austin in the fifth match, taking it 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Katrina Whipple came the closest to pulling of a victory, hanging tough but falling to Pagano by scores of 6-4, 6-4.
Notables – Daemen holds a 4-0 lead in the all-time series … Saturday's match was held at the tennis courts at Williamsville South High School.
