D'Youville vs. Daemen
Date: Sunday, April 25, 2021
Time: 5 p.m.
Location: Miller Tennis Center (Williamsville, N.Y.)
The D'Youville women's tennis team will finish its first season as a provisional member of NCAA Division II and the East Coast Conference this weekend, as the Saints face off with crosstown foe Daemen for a pair of contests. The Wildcats will host the Saints on Saturday at Williamsville South High School in a non-conference match, before the Saints welcome the Wildcats on Sunday for an ECC meeting at the Miller Tennis Center in D'Youville's season finale.
Last Time Out – The Saints were clipped twice, 7-0 and 7-0, by St. Thomas Aquinas in a pair of conference matches last weekend. In Saturday's matchup, the Spartans claimed all three doubles matches by 6-0 scores before sweeping the singles portion of the afternoon. On Sunday, STAC continued their dominance, taking the doubles matches (6-0, 6-1, 6-0) before defeating the Saints on all six of the singles courts.
D'Youville by the Numbers – Sophomore Katrina Whipple owns the lone singles win for the Saints this season, picking up the victory in the No. 6 singles match at Fredonia on April 10. Sophomore Julia Clapper and junior Alisson Meissner have split time in the first singles spot, but neither has claimed a win this campaign. Clapper has also been a staple on one of the top doubles duo, pairing with sophomore Faith Falkowski in four of the five matches this year.
Series History – Daemen holds the lead in the all-time series, 3-0. The Wildcats and Saints only faced off once prior to 2021, and the Amherst-based member of the rivalry took both matches earlier this season.
Daemen at a Glance – The Wildcats have been led this season by Frida Rubio, Christina Stasiuk and Mackenzie Schayes, who have each posted 4-1 records in singles play. Stasiuk recently reached a Daemen career milestone, being just the fourth player in program history to reach 60 combined singles and doubles victories.
