BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's tennis team made program history on Saturday, claiming a commanding 6-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College. This marks the first time the Saints have ever defeated the Spartans head-to-head, giving the team a strong start to ECC Fall Conference play.
The doubles matches set the tone for the day, as Junior Munisa Ashurbekova and Freshman Miranda Bosch clinched the crucial doubles point at second doubles with a 6-3 win. Their performance provided a strong foundation for the team heading into singles action.
In singles, Sophomore Mina Randjelovic delivered a dominant performance at third singles, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2 to secure the victory for the Saints. Newcomers Nele Herbst and Erika Ismailova both demonstrated remarkable resilience in their first collegiate action, coming from behind to win their matches in the deciding third set, solidifying D'Youville's 6-1 victory.
This victory not only gives the Saints momentum in conference play but also highlights the immediate impact of both new and returning players. With strong doubles and singles performances, D'Youville is proving they are a force to be reckoned with this fall.
The Saints will take their winning form to the ITA Regional Tournament at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Thursday, September 25th, as they continue their Fall season and look to build on the win.
