The D'Youville women's tennis team finished its weekend at East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas with a 7-0 loss on Sunday in Sparkill, N.Y.
The Saints shifted to 0-5 on the season and 0-4 in the league standings with the loss, while the win moved the Spartans to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in ECC action.
Sunday's early portion started with sophomore Julia Clapper and junior Taylor Nash falling on the top doubles court, 6-0, to Dauphine Donker and Flaminia Valci. In the No. 2 doubles contest, junior Alisson Meissner and sophomore Faith Falkowski suffered a 6-1 loss to Katarina Lopez and Brooke Lopez, while the third doubles match saw the combo of Alba Guijo and Maya O'Brien knock off the duo of Taylor-Anne Austin and Katelyn Hoover, 6-0.
The singles part of the ECC matchup did not fare any better for the Saints, as Meissner was topped by Valci in two sets (6-0, 6-1) on the first singles court, and Clapper suffered a defeat to Donker in the second singles showdown (6-0, 6-0). Brooke Lopez took down Falkowski in the No. 3 singles matchup (6-0, 6-0), while Nash put up a better effort in the No. 4 singles match, falling to Katarina Lopez by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
The final two singles matches were decided by pro sets, as O'Brien beat Austin by an 8-1 score on the fifth court, while sophomore Lily Nguyen fell to Guijo in an 8-0 contest in the final match.
Notables – Sunday moved the all-time series to 2-0 in favor of STAC … Nguyen made her first appearance in the singles lineup this season on Sunday.
