The D'Youville women's tennis team is set for a pair of matches against St. Thomas Aquinas in East Coast Conference action this weekend. The Saints will travel to Sparkill, N.Y. for a Saturday showdown before facing off once again with the Spartans on Sunday morning.
Last Time Out – The Saints dropped back-to-back matches last weekend, falling in a Friday contest with ECC rival Daemen, 7-0, before heading to Fredonia on Saturday afternoon, where the team lost the non-conference match to the Blue Devils, 8-1. Sophomore Katrina Whipple picked up D'Youville's first singles win of the season at Fredonia, beating Sarah O'Leary in the No. 6 singles match (6-2, 1-6, 10-8).
D'Youville by the Numbers – Through three matches, sophomore Julia Clapper has earned the assignment for the top singles match twice, falling in both of those meetings, while junior Alisson Meissner got the other No. 1 singles start. Clapper and fellow sophomore Faith Falkowski have also maintained the No. 1 doubles spot in all three matches this season, but have yet to break through for a win as a duo.
STAC at a Glance – The Spartans have picked up two non-conference this season. The team swept New Haven, 7-0, on March 13, before going on a pause due to COVID-19 protocols. STAC returned to action on April 15, defeating West Chester by a 7-0.
