Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville women's volleyball dropped a non-conference matchup to Edinboro, 3-0, inside the College Center on Tuesday night.
Edinboro (15-3) featured a balanced attack with four players with four kills or more. Sarah Wittek paced D'Youville (2-15) with seven kills, but the Saints couldn't get past the Fighting Scots at the net as the visitors totaled 18 block assists and two solos.
The visitors opened the match scoring 10 of the first 12 points. The Saints couldn't recover in the set and didn't get to within six at any moment. The Fighting Scots hit .474 in the opening set and limited the Saints to a -.074 clip.
Set two started closer than the opening stanza. D'Youville took a 3-2 lead before Edinboro scored three unanswered. With the score 5-4, the Fighting Scots went on a 7-2 run to take a 12-6 lead and forced a D'Youville timeout. Out of the timeout, the Saints got two kills from Wittek but couldn't cut into the deficit to start a rally.
In the final set of the night, the two sides split the first 12 points evenly. Kills from Eve Musielak and Brianna Damstetter to tie the set at six. Edinboro responded with a 9-2 stretch that was fueled by four aces. D'Youville tried to come back and force a fourth set with a 5-1 stretch to make it 21-17. Four Fighting Scot errors were part of the run. Edinboro then scored four of the final five points to collect the sweep and the win.
