Men Bested by Medaille on Home Court

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's volleyball team suffered a loss in their first home match of the week, falling to the visiting Medaille Mavericks by the final score of 3-1.

D'Youville got out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set, but Medaille would come back quickly to go ahead 8-6. The two teams would go back-and-forth over the next several points before the set was tied at 14. Medaille would go up 18-15 before the Spartans would score six of the next eight points to lead 21-20, but the Mavericks would close out the first with five unanswered to take the set 25-21.

The second was again an evenly matched performance as the set was tied 8-8. With the score 15-12 in favor of Medaille, the Spartans would trim the lead to two as the Mavericks would extend their lead to three and have it trimmed to two until Medaille went ahead 20-16. From that point on, the Mavericks would close out the match on a 5-1 run to win the second 25-17.

Like the second set, the third was tied early with the score of 7-7. D'Youville would get out to a 12-8 advantage before Medaille would score five unanswered to take the lead at 13-12. The third would again come to a tied score at 17, but D'Youville would take their game to another level to score the final eight points of the third to win 25-17.

Medaille would regain their form in the fourth, leading 10-4. They would extend their lead to 19-10 before going on to win the fourth 25-16 and the match 3-1.

Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) led the team with 21 assists with Dan Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) tallying 13 kills. Mitch Mason (Eden, NY/Eden) registered 14 digs with Anthony Dean (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) adding six kills. Ali Khadra (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) tallied six blocks with Joshua Hoy (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had three digs. Troy Stancampiano (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) accounted for two kills and three digs while William Anderson (Lake View, NY/Frontier) added a dig.

The next match for the Spartans will come this Friday evening as the men host SUNY Potsdam at 6:00pm.
