Haak Sets Program Hit Record against Crown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Kissimmee, FL – The D'Youville baseball team lost their final doubleheader of their spring training trip, going down to the Crown Storm in game one 5-4 and 22-0 in game two.

After a run was scored by Crown in the top of the second, D'Youville was able to take over the game in the bottom of the inning. Connor Truitt (Rochester, NY/Early College) began the inning with a walk. Then with two outs, Brendan Burke (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) walked followed by a Devon Kelly (Rochester, NY/Olympia) hit by pitch to load the bases.

An error from the Storm's shortstop put Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) on base and scored a run, with walks to Justin Varney (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and Renato Quinones (Lockport, NY/Saint Joe's) walking in runs for a 3-1 Spartan lead after two.

Crown came back with three runs in the top of the third and one run in the top of the fourth to lead 5-3. That lead would hold until the seventh inning until D'Youville would challenge for the lead late.

In the bottom of the seventh, Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) led off the inning with a hit by pitch, followed by a Nick Jank (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) hit by pitch. Burke would move Numan-Ali over to third on a fly ball and Kelly would then drive in Numan-Ali on a fielder's choice to make the score 5-4. D'Youville would nearly score late, but Crown would get out a jam and win the game 5-4.

Adam Lampman (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) pitched a great game as he allowed one earned run over 7.0 innings – his first complete game of the season. Jank led the team with two hits – both doubles to right field and the first two hits of his career.

In the final at-bat of the game, Haak broke the program's career hit mark of 116. He had one hit in the game while Varney tallied three talks and Burke had two. As a team they registered eight walks.

The second game of the day was vastly different than the first. Crown jumped all over the Spartans early and never looked back, winning the game 22-0.

Quinones, Truitt, and Shane Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) accounted for the team's three hits in the game. Critelli was excellent in relief with 1.2 innings of work, allowing no hits or runs. Truitt made his team debut on the mound with 1.1 innings of work, allowing two earned runs. Jank pitched an inning with one earned run.

The next game for the men is the final of their spring training trip tomorrow, March 21 as they play McDaniel at 9:00am.
