Mercy Outpaces Saints 10-2 In Saturday Contest

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Saints collected nine hits but could not keep pace with Mercy's offense in a 10–2 loss Saturday afternoon at Sal Maglie Stadium.

Anthony Consiglio led D'Youville at the plate with a three-hit performance, including a double. Colby Wilson added two hits with a double of his own, while Billy Morris also recorded two hits and scored a run as part of the Saints' nine-hit effort. Aiden Whitehead contributed offensively and defensively, finishing with a hit, an RBI, and four assists in the field.

Mercy took a 1–0 lead in the opening inning when Geneo Savoca came around to score on a single to center. The Mavericks added to the advantage in the fourth inning, plating three runs to stretch the lead to 4–0.

Starting pitcher Ryan McCarthy worked four innings for the Saints, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Eric Osterstrom followed with 1.1 innings in relief, while Matt McGeorge provided a strong middle relief outing, allowing just one run over 2.2 innings with a strikeout. Greg Orcutt closed the game with a strikeout in the final inning.

Mercy broke the game open in the sixth inning with four runs, highlighted by Nevin Scaperotti's triple and an RBI double from Kolongi Goins, pushing the score to 8–0.

D'Youville responded in the seventh inning. Jake Hollins reached base on an error and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Whitehead to put the Saints on the board.

The Saints added another run in the eighth inning when Morris crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Hollins. Mercy answered with a run of its own and added one more in the ninth to seal the 10–2 final.

Despite the setback, D'Youville continued to produce offensively with nine hits, including extra-base hits from Consiglio and Wilson, as well as a triple from Blaise Kolbert.

The Saints will look to get back in the win column as they're set to close out their home-opening series with Mercy at Sal Maglie Stadium tomorrow, March 29th, at noon.
