Box Score 2 Lewiston, NY – The D'Youville baseball team concluded their season on Saturday afternoon against the Hilbert Hawks, losing in game one 6-0 and 13-7 in game two.
Hilbert scored in three of the first four runs in game one and were able to keep the D'Youville bats quiet. The Spartans were never able to get a run across the plate as they lost game one 6-0.
Five different Spartans had one hit in the game. Will Pack (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) went 4.1 innings on the mound and struck out one. Nick Jank (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) came in for 1.2 innings of relief and struck out two.
The Hawks hand control of game two early. They scored nine total runs in the first three innings and added three more in the fifth. It wasn't until the sixth inning until D'Youville finally got a run across the plate, scoring three.
Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored the first run of the inning after Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) reached base on an error. Nicholas Ivanoff (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) then brought home Haak and the Spartans trailed 12-1. Two batters later, Kevin Sanders (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) doubled to left center and scored Patrick Mulligan (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) to score the team's third run.
In the eighth inning, the Spartans added four more runs. Sanders reached base on an error to score Ivanoff and Mulligan. Matt Guenther (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) came up two batters later and tripled to right center field, scoring both Sanders and Justin Varney (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta). The Spartans would never score enough to come back, losing game two 13-7.
Sanders and Guenther each led the team with two RBI and each had one hit. Brackna recorded a team high two hits while seven Spartans each had one hit. Adam Lampman (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) went 5.0 innings and allowed five earned runs. Braden Bova (Lancaster, NY/Saint Mary's) then pitched 3.0 innings of relief and allowed an earned run.
