Mounties Take One of Two Against Spartans to Close out Weekend

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville softball team split their their conference doubleheader of the season on Sunday afternoon to the Mount Aloysius Mounties, winning game one 1-0 and losing game two 4-3.

D'Youville wasted no time taking the lead in game one. Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) tripled to right field with one out in the bottom of the first inning. Next up, Hannah Turek (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added to her team lead in RBI by driving in Russo from third with a single to right, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead. 

The one run was all that the women needed as they went the distance and finished the game by winning 1-0. Turek was outstanding as she pitched a complete game over seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out six. She allowed no runs and no walks. Cameron Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) led the team with two hits, with three other Spartans tallying a hit.

Game number two was also a tightly contested game, this time with Mount Aloysius scoring the first run in the top of the first. The Spartans tied it up in the bottom of the second after Colan tripled down the left field line and was driven in by Therese Losardo (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster).

In the bottom of the fifth, D'Youville would take their first lead of the game. With two out, Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) tripled down the left field line. Next up, Russo reached on an error to score Carney for a 2-1 lead. A back-to-back singles from Turek and Darian Evans (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) scored Russo and gave the Spartans a 3-1 lead.

Mount Aloysius would come right back in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Then in the top of the seventh the Mounties would take the lead at 4-3 and go on to win the game by the same score.

Turek again pitched well, allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched. Alexis Dymond (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) came in to relieve Turek and struck out one 0.2 innings of work. Both Colan and Turek recorded a pair of hits, with Carney and Evans recorded one each.

The next doubleheader for the women comes on Tuesday, April 11 as the women host Brockport at 3/5pm.
