Altoona Takes Two from D'Youville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

North Collins, NY - The D'Youville baseball team lost their weekend conference doubleheader on Sunday to the Penn State-Altoona Lions by the final scores of 10-3 and 14-0.

Altoona took the lead in the top of the first to start game one, but the Spartans would answer in the bottom of the inning. Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) singled, followed by a Mitchell Mason (Eden, Eden) walk to put two runners on base. A Justin Brackna (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) single drove in Haak to tie the game at one after one.

The Lions would then take control of the game in the next two innings, adding six runs in the second and one in the third for an 8-1 lead. Brackna would strike again for the Spartans in the bottom of the second as Haak and Mason again reached base with a single and double respectively. The third would end with D'Youville cutting the Altoona lead in half at 6-3.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, they were unable to score any more runs throughout the remainder of the game. The Lions added two more tuns in the sixth and seventh and would win the game by the final of 10-3.

Brackna led the team with three RBI, tying Haak and Mason with the team lead in hits at two. Each of the top six hitters for D'Youville recorded at least a hit in the game. On the mound, Justin Uhteg (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) was strong in relief by going 3.1 innings, allowing one run and striking out two. Following him was Anthony Oliveri (Wheafield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), who made his season debut. Oliveri pitched 2.0 innings allowing one hit and two runs.

Game two was even through two innings before Altoona stepped up the offense. They scored at least a run in each of the next seven innings and shut D'Youville out to win the game 14-0.

Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Louis Reynolds (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) led the team with two hits each. Tyler Seigmann (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) pitched 4.0 solid innings of relief allowing one earned run.

The next pair of games for the Spartans comes on Wednesday, April 12 as they host the Hilbert Hawks at 1/3:30pm.
