Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Clermont, FL – The D'Youville softball team concluded their spring training on Thursday morning by defeating the Grinnell Pioneers 6-1 and losing to the Wisconsin-Oskhosh Titans 8-0.

D'Youville began the scoring in the top of the third, as Therese Losardo (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) singled with one out for the first base-runner of the inning. Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) then singled, moving Losardo to second. The team's RBI leader, Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster), then came to bat and singled to center, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, D'Youville broke the game open. Victoria Purucker (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) singled to center to lead off the inning. Lauren Gawlak (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and Cameron Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) then reached base, loading the bases. Two batters later, Megan Meyer (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) doubled to score Gawlak and Colan, making the score 3-0.

With two outs in the inning, Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) came up to bat with the bases loaded. With one swing she doubled the Spartan's score, clearing the bases and making it a 6-0 game. Grinnell would score a run in the bottom of the inning, but the game was well within hand for D'Youville as they went on to win 6-1.

Russo led the team in the game with three RBI while Losardo had a team high three hits and two runs. Four other players crossed the plate for D'Youville, with Russo and Purucker each recording two hits. Seven different players recorded at least one hit in the game. Turek picked up her second win of the season, allowing one run and struck out five.

The second game of the day for the women did not go as well as the first. Wisconsin-Oshkosh scored seven runs in the top of the second and added one in the top of the fifth, winning the game 8-0.

Carney and Losardo recorded the only two hits for the team. Laura Wilkinson (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), Krista Cornell (North Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) and Kayla Jackson (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) each made their first plate appearances of the season.

The next pair of games for the women come back in Buffalo as they host Hilbert for their first conference doubleheader of the season. Game times are 3pm and 5pm on Wednesday, March 29.
