Baseball Concludes Conference Schedule At Mount Aloysius

Cresson, PA – The D'Youville baseball team concluded their 2016 conference schedule on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Mount Aloysius Mounties 4-1 in game one and 18-1 in game two.

The Spartans would get on the board first in game one. Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) led off the fourth inning with a walk. Then, Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to second on a groundout in the next at-bat. With two outs, Kevin Kabacinski (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's) singled to drive in Macrides to give D'Youville a 1-0 lead.

Mount Aloysius would respond in the next inning, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. The Mounties would hold onto their lead for the remaining two innings, winning game one by the final of 4-1.

Freshman Matt Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) led the team with two hits in the game, followed by one each from Simoncelli, Kabacinski and Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew). Pitcher Dan Fox (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) picked up the loss pitching a complete game, allowing four earned runs and striking out two.

In game two, the Mounties took a 5-0 lead in the third inning. D'Youville would respond in the top of the fourth after Louis Reynolds (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) doubled with two outs. Critelli would follow up with a double of his own, scoring Reynolds and making the game 5-1.

The Mounties would break out for a combined 13 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take an 18-1 lead and would go on to win the game by the same score.

Thomas Brummer (Amherst, NY/St. Joe's) and Critelli led the team with two hits each. Tyler Goodridge (Lockport, NY/Lockport) pitched two innings and Brian Mattina-Chmiel (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) pitched an inning of relief, allowing one hit and no earned runs.

D'Youville will play next on Tuesday, May 3rd at Grove City to conclude their season.
