Box Score Rochester, NY – The D'Youville baseball team fell to the University of Rochester YellowJackets Thursday evening in a single nine-inning game by the final score of 13-2.
The YellowJackets struck first in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs to take the lead. Rochester would tack on runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, extending their lead to 9-0.
In the top of the seventh, Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led off with a walk. Marcides then moved to second on a balk then he moved to third as Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) reached on an error. During the next at-bat, Macrides and Simoncelli executed a double-steal with Simoncelli taking second and Macrides taking home for their first run of the game. After moving to third following the at-bat, Simoncelli would score on a wild pitch for the Spartans second run of the inning.
Rochester would score again in the seventh and eighth to bring their run total to 12 and the YellowJackets would defeat the Spartans by the final score of 12-2.
Freshman Dylan Haak (Depew, NY/Depew) led the team with two hits, followed by Thomas Brummer (Amherst, NY/St. Joe's) and Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) with one each. Macrides are had a team high three walks.
The Spartans will host the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats on Saturday, April 23rd at the University at Buffalo starting at 1pm. Game two of the doubleheader will begin at 3:30pm.
