Fox, Goodridge Pitch Complete Games In Losses to Behrend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Erie, PA – The D'Youville baseball team faced off one of the best teams in the AMCC on Wednesday afternoon and held their own, losing to the Penn State-Behrend Lions in a doubleheader by the scores of 6-1 and 1-0.

The first run of the game belong to the Spartans as they crossed the plate in the top of the first. Thomas Brummer (Amherst, NY/St. Joe's) walked with one out, then advanced to third on a throwing error from the third baseman in the next at-bat. Next, Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) singled down the right field line, driving in Brummer and giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead after the first inning.

Behrend would take the lead in the bottom of the second by scoring two runs. They would then double their lead in the bottom of the third, taking a 4-1 lead and triple their lead with two more runs in the fourth, making the game 6-1.

D'Youville would get a run back in the top of the seventh. Nick Stimpfel (Aquebogue, NY/Riverhead) led off the inning with a single. Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) then singled in the next at-bat, moving Stimpfel to second. The two were then put in scoring position after Louis Reynolds (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) grounded out to second. An error on the right fielder would give Matt Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) an RBI as Stimpfel would come in from third, making the game 6-2. The Lions would get two more outs and win the game by the same score.

Six different Spartans accounted for all six of the hits in the game by D'Youville. Macrides and Critelli would record the RBI with Brummer and Stimpfel scoring the runs. Dan Fox (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) pitched his fourth complete game of the season going six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out two.

Game two of the doubleheader was a true pitchers dual. Through six innings, the two teams had combined for only three hits, leaving eight runners on base. D'Youville threaten in the top of the seventh after loading the bases with two outs, but left them loaded as Behrend got out of the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, Behrend would break the scoreless tie with an RBI double. The Lion's pitching was dominating throughout, going on to win the game by the final score of 1-0.

Freshman Tyler Goodridge (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was outstanding in his second complete game of the season. Over eight innings, the right handed pitcher allowed five hits, one earned run and stuck out two. Hammer and Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) recorded the lone hits for the Spartans.

The men will play next on Saturday, April 16th at Niagara University as they host Alfred State at 1/3:30pm.
